Christine Seager
United Kingdom

Christine is a UK textile artist who makes large art quilts as well as small books and mixed media collages. Her quilts are abstract, colourful and based on the exploration of shape, form and numbers.
Christine’s work explores well balanced design using a limited colour palette and the Rules of Thirds, often incorporating circles. Strong colours and simple shapes excite her.
Her work is either improvisionally cut and pieced, or cut from her own patterns which have been scaled up from her printmaking. Her designs are driven by a desire for clean stark quilts that stand out visually from a distance. Christine uses her own hand dyed fabrics which are also printed and discharged. She uses simple stitching to integrate the work.
As a relief from the very disciplined design work, Christine is exploring whole cloth using mark making and text within a theme, “fabrications and script”. This different element of her work has political and social commentary. These quilts include hand stitch for texture.
Christine is a member of SAQA, as well as UK exhibiting groups. Christine was a SAQA regional representative for over three years and has curated and organised three SAQA European and Middle East touring Exhibitions and managed and curated Contemporary Quilt Challenges and a number of CQ West Exhibitions.
Christine has successfully exhibited in the UK, Europe, China, USA and South Africa. She has had three quilts accepted for the prestigious Fine Art Quilt Masters competition at the Festival of Quilts, NEC, Birmingham, UK. In 2019, she received the NACQJ Award of Merit for Lime Zest at the Mancuso World Quilt Competition.
